«Helem» means «dream» in arabic. It’s also the acronym for “Lebanese protection for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer individuals”. Helem Montréal originated from Helem Lebanon (Beirut) and maintains a proud Arab identity. Born in 2004, Helem Montreal was initially aimed at the Lebanese LGBTQ+ community. Today, the organization has opened up to the realities of all the Arab LGBTQ+ communities in Montreal.
