About us
Interligne was born as a direct response to an essential need: being able to speak and be heard, without fear or judgment, when you live at the intersection of multiple forms of marginalization.
Interligne is a frontline organization that, through its listening, intervention and awareness services, contributes to the well-being of people concerned by sexual diversity and gender plurality.
Our organization is recognized for its contribution to a more inclusive society, where every person affected by sexual diversity and gender plurality has access to quality services.
Empowerment
People from LGBTQ+ communities have the capacity to make decisions, find solutions and take action according to their own values and needs. Our approach aims to support and accompany them in that direction.
Compassion
We contribute to the well-being of the people we serve and of our own team by adopting an attitude marked by empathy, availability, attentive listening, openness and support.
Inclusion
Everyone from LGBTQ+ communities is a full member of society. Our perspective emphasizes the representation of all forms of diversity and the accessibility of our services.
Social justice
We believe in equal opportunity and in collective solidarity between people from LGBTQ+ communities and the rest of the population. Our approach and our programs aim to promote and uphold LGBTQ+ rights.
Our history
Founded in 1980 by a handful of volunteers, our organization was then called Gai Écoute. Our mission was to offer telephone support to members of the gay and lesbian communities, and to raise awareness among the Greater Montréal population about the realities and impacts of homophobia.
Within a few years, the volunteer team had grown, and the listening service became available every evening across Québec.
That simple act — listening — was both modest and deeply political. At the time, homosexuality had only just been decriminalized, and LGBTQ+ people were still living in the shadows.
Today, we are a central organization in the support network for LGBTQ+ people. We are a key player in community intervention, in the fight against discrimination, and in promoting the rights and well-being of people concerned by sexual diversity and gender plurality.
